Making Use of My Time

7 Jan

Things have finally slowed down around here. Which makes me happy and sad all at the same time. I am using this “slow” time, to learn, to re-focus, to get my creativity going. And let me tell you, my creativity is busting at the seams of me, my house, and my life in general. The more I study, the more ideas I get, and the more ideas I get, the more anxious I get about pulling out my camera. I have been studying on editing images, using what is naturally in the image.

The past few days, I have cleaned the house, painted and stained tables, with little to no music on, and just me and the puppy. I really had alot of time to think some things through. Photo-shoot ideas, promotional ideas, plans, and where I would like to see my business go this year. Most of all, my goal this year is to grow as an artist. If my art is not inspiring anyone, yet alone myself, I might as well hang it up.

SOME STUFF I HAVE COME UP WITH:

I am drawing out plans for props, how to use them, and who to use them with. Starting with the upcoming Valentine Mini Sessions. I am making banners, canvas’, and even a giant cupcake! I can not wait to see how these props add some life into my sessions with my clients. I hate to buy something (in any case), unless I absolutely can not make it myself.

Being that I am a “studier”, I want to know as much about my clients as possible. The more I know, the more I can catch the personalities of my clients. Maybe a small questionaire on the clients (couples, children, and families). I feel that this way, maybe people who are always comfortable in front of the camera, will be more relaxed. It will also allow me to help prepare the theme and give me a good idea to suggest or incorporate some props into the shoot.

I hope that my studying and preparing for spring, when things pick back up to full speed, will really pay off!

Brotherly Love

5 Jan

My “night shift” schedule got the best of me last night. I stayed up late editing some pictures, just playing around. I took this picture of Cavin, at our anual Cookie Day with my grandmother, aunts and cousins. This year, we painted clay ornaments along with making cookies. Cavin made ornaments for me, his sister, mom and dad; so, Darion (20) made him an ornament. I took the photo with it and played with the background and added a profile on him to it.

Haley and Corey married at Avondale Estates, Georgia

3 Jan

I met Haley almost three years ago through my cousin, Tracey. Through those three years, I have spent some time with Haley, and Corey too, cookouts where Corey caught the grill on fire and Haley burnt the fries in the oven, doing Haley’s hair some, and going to lunch with Haley and Tracey. I can honestly say, from day one to now, I have really seen these two grow together and their love on their wedding day was so strong. I was so happy to be a part of their day, and to witness their bond.

I originally showed up in Avondale Estates that day to do hair and make-up. Little did I know I would be put behind Tracey’s camera! Okay, that’s a lie… I was hoping for a chance to catch some pictures, but in a rush to get all the hair stuff I needed, I blindly left my camera at home. So, when Tracey threw me behind the camera, there were no complaints from me! 🙂

Tracey and I tag teamed on the wedding, and I hope we captured memories that Haley and Corey and their friends and family will remember forever.

Look what me and the hubby have been up to!!

Walking K Farmstead

Waking up to the sound of the miter saw, brings joy to my heart, and makes my home feel more cozy just by the sound! A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon Ana White and her awesome blog. Justin and I have spent hours on her blog reading about people’s expreiences on building their own farmhouse style furniture. I sat down and printed about ten to twelve designs/plans for us to work off of.

Justin built his first table a few weeks ago for our dining room, I thought, and still think, it turned out so great, especially for his first table. It needed a few tweaks and turns to make it a little more sturdy. After some time had passed, he still had not fixed those “tweaks”; I knew what he was thinking… a rebuild. Yes, it was a little small, but this wifey would not have complained once. But, my major problem with…

Christmas with the Kents 2012

27 Dec

This Christmas was a first for so much. Justin and I’s very first married Christmas, first Christmas in our new house.

Justin and Amy

Where there is Joy, there is a alittle sorrow as well.. my uncle lost his battle with lung and bone cancer late in the night on November 9th, 2012. You never know when your last day is, and my goal this year is to live like he would (mentality wise- he was a modern day rebel!). Even at a young age, Eddie lived and loved like there were no tomorrow. He was one of five boys, and the J-CREW (Joe, Charlie, Robert, Eddie, and Willie) will never be the same, but it will live on forever.

All of my cousins, both mom and dad’s side, have beautiful eyes. Most of them are different shades of blue.. grey-blue, green-blue, or turquoise color. This is my cousins youngest sone Elijah, he is a mess, and can put the older boys in their place in a heart beat!

At my Granny Jane’s house, which was her mom and dads house, there is an old barn that has been there since before I was born. This barn has never really jumped out to me until this Christmas! As soon as I stepped in the door, I grabbed Brittney and asked her to jump in the shot! After I got a few shots of her, she could not stand it, she had to take a few pictures herself, so we swapped places.

Diesels in Dark Corners II

Liberty Truck and Tractor Pull presents…
DIESELS IN DARK CORNERS II

SONY DSCblog didc2_edited-1 copy

Over 1700 people and an uncountable number of kids, entered the gates at Liberty Truck and Tractor Pull, November 10th, 2012. Gates opened at 8:30 that morning to fans, pullers, staff and volunteers. By 9:30 trucks were signed up on the dyno, ready to find out who had the most horsepower.

lfdp dino blog article

Liberty was able to offer big pay-outs, thanks in large part to the great sponsors. The possibility of taking home a great winning drew pullers from all over. As far as Connecticut to Florida, and all between. Competition was more tough than any normal event at the Liberty track. Every body was putting their foot to the floor to try to walk away with the purse. Records were broken and set alot higher, making for a good show. Libery’s sled, ‘The Show Stopper’, caused quiet a few trucks and drivers to stop their “show”, with a few broken drive shafts, and some minor breaks here and there; but the biggest break of all was when the Ronald McDonald truck retired with a grand finale of literally blowing up (not pictured)!

I’d like to share with you all, some of my personal favorite pictures from my official collection of the day. I would also like to thank the Liberty staff for giving me the opportunity to cover the event for them. Thank you to my media crew, Brittney and my mom, Mitzi, and also to my Dad, Robert, my husband, Justin, and our fellow pullers and friends at Liberty. We are officially counting down the days to spring pulling season, winter is a good break but by the end of February we start to get the itch to smell some diesel fumes, and hear a turbo spool!

Riding the feed truck

27 Nov

I love a good day with my favorite Tennessee cowboy.  This man is a true cowboy, if there ever was one. He has more tales than you have hair on your head, and can rope and ride from dusk to dawn.

image

I am not sure what I love more, being at the farm photographing its beauty, being able to be hands on with the animals- or both! Watching Jim with his animals and land can entertain me for days. Animals always know who takes care of fhem and who there friends are, who they can trust is who they allow near. I love the feeling I get when a horse I have never been around allows me to show him attention and love.

Colt ventured out from around his mom to see what I was up to.

The end of the day, I took some random shots and this one didnt seem that special till I looked it over once more. The back of the feed truck after a long day of work.
